On-Board Functionality in MicroFluidic Devices Enables Multiplexed Assays

ALine’s proprietary process for on-board diaphragm valve prototyping and manufacture is a break through for device developers seeking to enable complex multi-step assays on disposable platforms.

ALine’s enabling microfabrication platform permits custom development of sophisticated self-contained fluidic devices suitable for single use applications. Our ability to incorporate pneumatically actuated valves in polymer laminate devices permits device developers to incorporate complex functionality for multiplexed analysis in POC instruments. The valve performance has been well characterized, and ALine has developed a cost effective process for both rapid prototyping and volume manufacture.

Medical diagnostic device developers have been exploring the capability of these valves to enable multiplexed assays. Dr. Levine commented, “One of the nice features of these valves is that they can be used to permit even filling of a dry device. We have observed even filling across multiple channels because the valves serve as a fluid stop, permitting air, but not fluid flow.”

ALine’s proprietary fabrication process permits production volumes of devices containing these valve assemblies, supporting developers from prototyping to manufacture. Dr. Levine commented, “We currently manufacture 10,000 complex laminate fluidic components per month in compliance with FDA quality guidelines. We have successfully demonstrated the unique market niche these laminates provide for IVDx developers.”
